    The Society of Consulting Marine Engineers & Ship Surveyors has been appointed as an Authorised Certifying Authority by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for statutory surveys of small commercial vessels, police vessels, pilot boats and small workboats; and actively participates within the various MCA working parties in their policy of delegation of statutory surveys and certification.

    Members of the YBDSA provide essential services to both commercial boat operators and the boating public, from helping with boat purchase, through registration, to coding and certifying a vessel for commercial use. The members are divided into two separate groups, the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) and the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). The YBDSA also operates the Professional Charter Association.

    The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) is a non-profit organization that certifies marine surveyors and provides continuing education opportunities. NAMS’ membership is international and, once certified, its members carry the NAMS-Certified Marine Surveyor (NAMS-CMS) designation after their names.

    SAMS® is intended to be an organization of Professional Marine Surveyors who have come together to promote the good image and general well being of their chosen profession.   Accredited Marine Surveyor members are surveyors who have accumulated time in the profession, and have proven the technical skills necessary for designation as AMS®.   There is, through the Surveyor Associate program, the opportunity for less experienced members to participate in SAMS® and hone their skills under the tutelage of Accredited Marine Surveyors in their local area.

    The ABYC is a not-for-profit membership organization that has been developing and updating the safety standards for boat building and repair for over 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is a leader in education for the marine industry, as well as certification programs for marine technicians.

    ABYC's membership includes boat builders, boat owners, surveyors, boat yards, insurance companies, law firms, trade associations, marinas, dealerships, government agencies, educational institutions and equipment and accessory manufacturers.
