The Automotive industry has had this type of service for many years and is supported through the many motoring programmes on television. BoatStats now provides statistical information to help boat buyers understand and be aware of the issues which may arise from a boat whether new or pre owned.
How many leisure boats are owned in the UK?
British Marine Federation has consulted on this issue with marine insurers, magazine publishers and the RYA. The consensus is that approximately 451,000 boats (over 2.5 metres) are kept in the UK and 90,000 UK-owned boats are kept abroad. The number of foreign owned boats kept in the UK is estimated at circa 16,000 (source: British Marine Federation 2004 data).
How many people participate in boating and water sports in the UK?
In September 2004, British Marine Federation carried out a survey amongst 6,000 people in the general population. This established that the true UK participation figure is approximately 3.5 million people, aged 16 and over (Source: BMF, RYA and Sunsail survey 2004).
How big is the World market?
Research has showed that the US market is estimated at $26 billion and is four times bigger than the rest of the world this equates to a Global marketplace value of $32.5 billion.
